Sierra Chart + Recap · Windows 10/11
A study that puts every Sierra Chart trade on film.
If you trade order flow, the trade happened on your screen, not on a clean candlestick chart rebuilt after the fact. Recap records your real Sierra Chart layout, and the study tells it when you entered and exited. Go flat, and Recap can place a labeled clip in your Library seconds later without a separate clip hotkey.
It’s a study. You’ve done this before.
Install the connector
In Recap’s Integrations tab, click Download & Install on the Sierra Chart card. Recap copies RecapSidecar.dll into Sierra Chart’s Data folder for you, both instances if you run two. Or get it from the download page and copy it in yourself.
Add it to your charts
Restart Sierra Chart, then on each chart whose fills you want captured: Chart → Studies → Add Custom Study → Recap Fill Forwarder → Add. The study is per chart, so a new symbol means adding it to that chart too.
That’s the whole workflow
When a position goes flat, a labeled clip appears in your Library within a few seconds. Sierra’s Trade Simulation mode works too, so you can watch the first clips land risk-free.
Start Recap first, then Sierra Chart, and leave it running while you trade. Fills are handed off locally on your own machine — nothing leaves your computer. Study Inputs let you limit capture to specific accounts; defaults work for most traders. Full steps live in Getting trades in.
Two things to know before your first session.
Neither is a problem once you know it. Both are the kind of thing we’d rather say here than leave for you to find in a log.
Recap never claims footage it didn’t capture — a known gap gets named, not hidden.
How a Sierra Chart trade becomes a clip.
Order-flow traders live in the DOM, Numbers Bars and footprint charts, and none of that survives a chart rebuilt from market data afterwards. Recap records the Sierra Chart layout you actually traded from; the study only tells it when.
Recap Fill Forwarder watches the chart
Added once per chart you trade from (Chart → Studies → Add Custom Study). It observes fills on that chart’s trade account and forwards them to Recap on your own machine. Study Inputs can limit it to named accounts.
You trade normally
Entries, scale-ins, partial exits and flips are followed as one position. Sierra’s Trade Simulation mode reports fills the same way, so your first clips can be risk-free.
Going flat cuts the clip
Seconds after the position closes, a clip labeled ES | short | −12.5 pts | 10:15:03 appears in the Library: your DOM, your footprint, your order panel, exactly as they were.
Run the film
On the Review screen, Tale of the Tape shows points, size, hold, peak and heat against your own averages for that instrument on that account; the Trade lane marks when peak and heat happened, so you can scrub straight to the moment the trade turned.

What the study can and cannot tell Recap.
- Per chart, by design. The study forwards fills from the charts you add it to. A new symbol means adding it to that chart too; a chart without the study records footage but produces no automatic clip.
- Peak and heat need the study running from the start of the hold. If a position was already open when the study started watching, Peak · MFE and Heat · MAE read “not recorded” or come out lower than the true move. Restart the study while flat and the next trade records normally (details). Points and the clip itself are unaffected.
- Points, not dollars. Labels carry gross points; Recap shows your peak position size separately and never converts to currency or subtracts fees (known limitations).
- Footage is whatever Windows can see. A minimized chartbook or a sleeping machine leaves a gap, which Recap marks rather than hides. Record the monitors your layout actually occupies (recording guide).

Sierra Chart specifics.
Does it capture every chart, or only some?
The study forwards fills from the charts you add it to, so you choose. Add it to every chart you trade from for full coverage. Recap records the screens regardless; the study is what turns footage into one labeled clip per trade.
Can it interfere with my trading or my account?
No. The study only observes fills and forwards them to Recap on your own machine. Recap has no order-placement path anywhere: it can read your trade events, never act on your account.
I trade a funded account through Sierra Chart. Where does the footage go?
Nowhere. Recordings, clips and notes exist only on your machine. No cloud, no uploads. Clips are ordinary local video files.
Multiple monitors, multiple chartbooks?
Record as many monitors or specific windows as you like. Every trade’s clip covers each recorded screen, and the Review screen replays them side by side in sync.
How is this different from Sierra Chart’s own replay?
Chart replay re-runs market data through the platform, which is useful for practice but is not a record of your session. Recap captures what was actually on your screens while you traded, DOM and order panel included, as one labeled clip per completed trade.
