Known limitations

Everything below is a boundary of the product as it stands, written out so nothing surprises you after you install it.

• Platform coverage is growing. Connectors are available for Sierra Chart, NinjaTrader, and MotiveWave, with Quantower, ATAS, ATAS X, and a direct Tradovate account connection in beta. If you trade somewhere else, Recap still records your screens, but it can’t turn your trades into clips automatically — you cut those yourself from the Timeline. Tell us which platform you’d like covered via Settings → Suggest a feature, or [email protected].
• P&L is shown in points, not dollars. Clips are labeled instrument · direction · ±points · time. There is no dollar P&L, and fees and commissions aren’t included. (Trade size appears as a column in the Library rather than on the clip label.)
• Drop Marker records a moment, not a clip. The button and hotkey mark the instant on your timeline; you turn it into a clip afterward from the Timeline.
• There’s no market-hours scheduler. Recording starts when you start it, or auto-resumes your last session’s screens when they reappear. It isn’t driven by a market calendar or by the clock.
• Recordings and clips aren’t encrypted on disk. They’re ordinary files that stay on your machine — see Security & privacy.
• There’s no clip trimming, drawing, or uploading. Share Clip on the Review screen takes you straight to a trade’s video file so you can post or send it anywhere, but Recap doesn’t edit or upload it for you. Analytics stop at the Library’s session stats and the Review screen’s per-instrument averages. There’s no cloud sync, cross-device review, or mobile app. If dashboards and equity curves drive your review, pair Recap with a stats journal — compared here.
• Changing an instrument’s point size doesn’t relabel past trades. New trades use the new value; trades already in your Library keep the labels they were given.
• A very long retroactive clip can briefly pause the app while the footage is extracted.
• The installer isn’t code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen warns about an unknown publisher the first time you run it. Choose More info → Run anyway. A code-signing certificate is in progress and will be in place before public release.
• The window needs 1200×760 or more. The Review screen’s layout needs that much room. On a 1366×768 laptop the available height is slightly less than that once the taskbar is accounted for, so the bottom of the window can sit just off-screen. It’s still fully usable.
