Core concepts
Recap has its own small vocabulary. Learning these makes everything else click.
| Term | What it means |
|---|---|
| Fill | One execution from your trading platform — a buy or sell of some size, at a price, at a time. Fills are the raw trade events Recap builds on; you don’t enter them, your platform connector sends them automatically. |
| Round‑trip trade | A position from open to flat — including scaling in and out, and flipping straight from long to short. Recap groups your fills and closes a trade when your position returns to flat. A whole scaled position is one trade (and one row in your Library). |
| P&L (points) | Profit or loss for a round trip, shown in points (e.g. +34.0 pts). It’s gross (before fees and commissions) and isn’t shown in dollars — see Known limitations. |
| Clip | A standalone, labeled video of a single trade — full quality, covering from just before your entry to just after your exit. Recap saves one clip per recorded screen, so you can replay every monitor for a trade in sync. |
| Lead‑in / lead‑out | Seconds of footage kept before your entry and after your exit, so each clip shows the setup and the aftermath — not just the fill. Adjustable in Settings (defaults: 30 s in, 15 s out). |
| Feed | One recorded screen’s video within a trade’s clip set. A trade recorded across three screens has three feeds, replayed side by side and in sync on the Review screen. |
| Peak / Heat (MFE / MAE) | The most a trade moved in your favor (Peak, a.k.a. MFE) and the most it moved against you (Heat, a.k.a. MAE), in points. Shown on the Review screen when your trading platform provides them — some platforms don’t, and Recap says “not recorded” rather than guessing. On Sierra Chart the run is measured from the moment the study sees you enter, so a position that was already open before the study loaded has nothing to measure. |
| Moment tag | A labeled pin inside a trade’s replay (“chased the break”) — placed from the replay deck, shown on the scrubber, and listed in the trade’s notes so you can jump straight back to it. Different from a Drop Marker, which flags live session time. |
| Trade notes & mood | Each trade carries its own journal: a general assessment, four guided reflection topics, and a 1–5 mood rating (how the trade felt, not how it paid). Everything autosaves as you review. |
| Drop Marker | An instant marker you place live (a button or global hotkey) to flag a moment you didn’t trade. It records only the moment — no clip is cut right then. You turn a marker into a clip later on the Timeline. |
| Connector | A small add‑on for your trading platform that tells Recap about your trades. Stable connectors are available for Sierra Chart, NinjaTrader, and MotiveWave; Quantower and ATAS X connectors are in beta. A direct Tradovate account connection is also in beta and has no file to install — see Connect your platform. |
| Retention | A background cleanup that ages out old raw footage by time and size (default 7 days / 200 GB) so recordings don’t fill your drive. It never touches your saved clips. |
