Signing in to Recap
You need a Recap account to use the app. Signing in creates one automatically if you don’t have one.
- Continue with Google opens your browser to sign in with Google, then returns you to Recap automatically.
- Email code: enter your email, click Send sign-in code, then type the code from your inbox back into Recap. The email contains a code, not a link — nothing to click, and nothing a mail scanner can use up before you get to it. The code expires shortly and works once.
You can sign in the same way on the web at recap.trade/login.
Your session is stored securely in the Windows Credential Manager (not in browser storage). You stay signed in across launches, with a 14‑day idle cap (after 14 days without use, you’re signed out). Sign out any time from Settings → Account.
Recap checks your licence in the background after you sign in. Once a device has checked in successfully at least once, it keeps working through any later outage — you’ll see a Can’t reach the license server banner counting down the days rather than being shut out. A device that has never completed a check has to complete one before it can be used; until then it asks you to try again. Recordings already on this machine stay on it either way.
Common sign-in errors
| Message | Meaning |
|---|---|
| ”Enter a valid email address.” | The email failed validation before a code was sent. |
| ”Enter the full code from your email.” | The code is 6–10 digits. Retype it without spaces. |
| ”Token has expired or is invalid” | The code has already been used or has timed out. Request a new one. |
| ”Sign‑in timed out” | You didn’t finish signing in within about 10 minutes. Start again. |
| ”Recap hasn’t been able to verify this device yet” | You’re signed in, but this device has never completed a licence check, so it needs one before it can be used. Click Try again — a single success unlocks it and it won’t ask again. If you’re online and it keeps failing, that’s on our side: contact support. |
| ”Recap couldn’t reach the license server for more than 7 days” | This device was verified, but hasn’t reached us in over a week. Connect to the internet and click Try again — one successful check restores it. |
| ”You’re active on another device” | Your licence covers one active machine at a time. Click Use here instead to move the seat; the other machine keeps its recordings. Quitting Recap there releases the seat on its own. |
| ”No active Recap subscription” | You’re signed in but there’s no licence on the account yet. Manage account opens recap.trade/login in your browser; start a subscription there, then click Check again. |
