Markers & the Timeline

The Timeline tab shows one coverage track per recorded source, a lane of the markers you dropped, and a drag-to-select range you can turn into a clip. Tracks are ordered to match the feed order you set in the Armed strip on the Record tab, monitors and windows alike.

Mark a moment live, then clip it later

Sometimes you want to review something you didn’t trade — a setup you passed on, a sharp move.

1. While recording, click ⚑ Drop Marker in the nav bar (or press your marker hotkey — default Ctrl+Shift+T, rebindable in Settings → Markers). This records the instant only — no clip is cut at that point. (If you’re not recording, Recap tells you “Not recording — nothing to mark.”)
2. Later, open Timeline, pick the day, and you’ll see your markers as pins on the coverage axis.
3. Click a pin — it pre‑fills a selection around that moment (using your lead‑in/lead‑out) and auto‑selects the sources that have footage there.
4. Click Generate clip. The clip is cut and appears in your Library; the marker is flagged as clipped.

A drop marker is an instant, not a live clip. That’s deliberate: you decide later exactly what range around the moment is worth keeping. See Known limitations.

Clip anything retroactively

Because Recap keeps your whole session for the retention window, you can cut a clip from any covered range — even without a marker.

1. Open Timeline and choose a day.
2. Each source shows its coverage on a 24‑hour axis, labeled by its name — or the nickname you gave it. Drag‑select a range on the tracks (or type exact Start/End times).
3. Check the sources to include (sources with no footage in the range are faint). Add an optional note.
4. Watch the coverage readout: ✓ covered, ⚠ partial (there’s a gap), empty, or invalid (end before start). Generate clip is enabled when the range is covered or partial with at least one source chosen.
5. Click Generate clip. A partial range still cuts (from available footage) and tells you there was a gap.

Retro clips are stored as a special “tagged moment” trade (instrument shown as TAG) so they live alongside your real trades in the Library.

Delete a recording you don’t need

Raw footage is by far the biggest thing Recap stores, and retention only ages it out on its own schedule. When you want the space back now, the Timeline lists Recordings this day underneath the clip controls — when each one ran, how long for, how many screens it captured, and what it’s using on disk.

Click Delete on a recording and confirm. This removes raw footage only — clips you already saved from that recording live somewhere else entirely and are untouched. What you lose is the ability to cut new clips or markers from that stretch of the day, and that can’t be undone.

Two kinds of recording can’t be deleted, and Recap tells you which rather than just greying out the button:

• Recording right now — stop the recording first.
• An open trade still needs this footage — you’re holding a position whose clip hasn’t been cut yet. Deleting it would leave that trade with an empty clip, so Recap protects it exactly the way automatic retention does. Close the position and the recording becomes deletable.
