NinjaTrader + Recap · Windows 10/11
One AddOn for NinjaTrader trade capture.
Recap records the screens you actually traded from — chart, SuperDOM, order ticket, the lot — and the NinjaTrader AddOn tells it when you entered and exited. Go flat, and Recap can place a labeled clip in your Library seconds later without a separate clip hotkey.
Loads once. Covers every account.
Drop in the AddOn
Copy RecapSidecar.dll into Documents\NinjaTrader 8\bin\Custom\. It arrives already compiled — no NinjaScript Editor step, nothing to build. Get it from the download page.
Restart NinjaTrader
The AddOn loads on startup and covers every connected account and chart automatically — there is nothing to add per chart, ever. An optional setting narrows it to one account. Check Control Center → Log for a Recap: initialized line.
That’s the whole workflow
When a position goes flat, a labeled clip appears in your Library within a few seconds. Try a few round trips on Sim101 first and watch the clips land.
Start Recap first, then NinjaTrader, and leave it running while you trade. Fills are handed off locally on your own machine — nothing leaves your computer. Full steps live in Getting trades in.
What a NinjaTrader session looks like on film.
Recap only ever sees two things from NinjaTrader: the pixels on the monitors you picked, and the executions the AddOn reports. Here is how those two turn into a review.
Recap first, then NinjaTrader
On the Record tab, pick the monitor your charts and SuperDOM live on (the monitor, not the chart window — NinjaTrader 8 chart windows can capture black as individual windows). Press Start recording. Open NinjaTrader; Control Center → Log shows Recap: initialized.
You trade. Nothing else.
Every account NinjaTrader is connected to is covered, Sim101 included. Scaling in, partial exits and flips are followed as one position until it is flat.
The clip lands
Seconds after the position closes, a clip labeled NQ | long | +34.0 pts | 09:42:15 appears in the Library with a New badge. It covers the whole hold plus a lead-in.
Run the film
On the Review screen, Tale of the Tape puts points, size and hold against your own NQ averages on that account (peak and heat appear only when the platform reports them — otherwise “not recorded”); E and X jump to entry and exit; every recorded monitor plays in sync.
The label, instrument and figures above are an illustration of the workflow, not actual trading results. Risk Disclosure
Five things to check once.
- Hardware. Windows 10/11 64-bit and a GPU with hardware video encoding — the requirements list which ones.
- Record the monitor. NinjaTrader 8 chart windows can capture black as individual windows; whole-monitor capture does not have the problem (troubleshooting).
- One connector per account. If you also link Tradovate directly, leave any account NinjaTrader already covers unticked there, or each fill arrives twice (Tradovate page).
- Try Sim101 first. A few simulated round trips show you the clips landing before real money is on the line (quick start).
- Plan the review. A fifteen-minute routine keeps the Unwatched list empty — run a session review.
NinjaTrader specifics.
Does it work with funded or prop accounts running through NinjaTrader?
The AddOn watches executions on the accounts NinjaTrader knows about and hands them to Recap locally. Your footage stays on your machine — no cloud, no uploads — and Recap has no way to place, modify, or route an order on any account.
Do I need to add anything to each chart?
No. Unlike a per-chart indicator, the AddOn loads once with the platform and covers all accounts and instruments automatically.
How is this different from NinjaTrader’s own playback?
Playback replays market data through the platform, which is useful for practice but is not a record of your session. Recap captures what was actually on your screens while you traded, as one labeled clip per completed trade.
Do I need a NinjaTrader licence to use Recap?
You need a working NinjaTrader installation — the free version is enough for the connector to report fills. Recap is a separate application from Recap Trading LLC and is neither sold nor supported by any NinjaTrader company.
